Mealible

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Mealible.

Getting started

Is Mealible free to use?
Yes. The core features of Mealible are free: saving recipes, generating a weekly meal plan, and downloading a grocery list. The free plan allows up to 50 saved recipes. Premium (paid) adds AI Picks — 10 personalised weekly recipe recommendations — and raises the recipe limit to 200.
Do I need to create an account?
Yes. Mealible requires an account so your recipes, meal plans, and preferences are saved across devices. Sign-up takes under a minute and only requires an email address.

Recipes

How many recipes can I save?
Free users can save up to 50 recipes. Premium users can save up to 200. Both plans can browse the built-in collection of 65+ starter recipes and save any of them to their library.
Can I add my own recipes?
Yes — that's the foundation of Mealible. You can add any recipe with a title, meal type (breakfast, lunch, snack, or dinner), and ingredients. Mealible automatically computes a nutrition profile from what you enter.
How does Mealible know the nutrition of my recipes?
Mealible analyses each ingredient against the USDA food nutrition database and calculates how much of your adult daily requirement the recipe covers. Ratings are: Strong (≥33% of daily need — a full meal's contribution), Average (12–33%), Low (4–12%), or None (<4%). This applies to protein, fiber, fat, carbs, vitamins, and minerals. Where relevant, Mealible identifies specific nutrients — for example, 'Strong vitamins: B12, B2, D' for an egg-based dish, or 'Strong minerals: iron, selenium' for a lentil dish. Entering quantities (e.g. '3 eggs', '150g chicken') gives more precise results, but Mealible provides a sensible estimate even without them.
Can I share recipes with friends or family?
Yes. Mealible has a recipe sharing feature. You can send any recipe from your library to a Mealible contact; they can save it to their own library. Partner mode links two accounts so the recipe library and meal plan are shared automatically.

Meal planning

How does the meal plan generator work?
Mealible generates a 7-day plan (4 meals per day: breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner) from your saved recipes. The algorithm balances nutrition across the week — prioritising protein and fibre variety, ensuring vitamins and minerals are covered — while adapting to your previous accept and reject history.
Can I edit or regenerate the meal plan?
Yes. You can regenerate the full plan at any time, swap individual recipes in any slot, or manually edit any meal slot. The plan is yours to adjust — Mealible generates the starting point.
Is there a minimum number of recipes needed to generate a plan?
The meal plan generator works best with at least 8–12 saved recipes (ideally spread across meal types). With fewer recipes, the same dishes will repeat across the week. The 65-recipe starter collection can be used to quickly build up your library.
What does the nutrition scorecard on the meal plan show?
The scorecard shows 7 daily coverage dots per nutrient — dark green (strong day: ≥40% daily contribution across all meals), medium green (ok day: meaningful contribution), or empty (low coverage). The breakdown shows how many days were 'strong' vs 'ok', so you can see at a glance which nutrients need attention and on which days.

Premium & AI

What does Premium include?
Premium unlocks AI Picks — 10 personalised recipe recommendations each week, selected by AI based on the nutritional gaps in your recipe collection. Premium also raises your recipe limit from 50 to 200, and gives both you and your linked partner Premium access.
How does the AI decide which recipes to recommend?
The AI analyses your saved recipe collection, identifies which nutrients are underrepresented (in terms of both quantity and source variety), and picks 10 recipes that address those specific gaps — filtered by your inferred dietary preferences. Each pick comes with a plain-English explanation of why it was chosen.
How often do AI Picks refresh?
AI Picks refresh weekly — typically each Sunday. You get 10 new personalised picks per week. You can also trigger a manual refresh from the Discover tab.
If my partner has Premium, do I get access too?
Yes. In Partner mode (linked accounts), effective premium status is shared. If either partner has Premium, both get access to AI Picks and the 200-recipe limit.

Partner & friends

What is Partner mode?
Partner mode links your Mealible account with one other person — your partner, spouse, or housemate. In Partner mode, you share the same recipe library, weekly meal plan, and grocery list. It requires Premium.
How do I invite my partner to Mealible?
Go to the People tab (accessible from the hamburger menu), find the Partner section, and use 'Invite via WhatsApp' or 'Invite by email'. They'll receive a personalised link to join and connect as your partner automatically.

Technical

Can I use Mealible on my phone?
Yes. Mealible is a mobile-first PWA (Progressive Web App) that works in any browser on any device. On mobile, you can add it to your home screen for an app-like experience without downloading anything from an app store.
Can I print my meal plan or grocery list?
Yes. Both the meal plan and the grocery list can be downloaded as a PDF from the respective pages. The PDF is designed to be printed and placed on the fridge.
